My mother-in-law desires that my unborn child call her “Mom.”

Everyone who has a child would probably lose it if someone told them that their child had to call them “mother.” Our main character, Rebecca, who is 34 years old and expecting her first child, had the same thing happen to her. However, things are even worse for her because her mother-in-law is making such unreasonable demands. Rebecca wrote to us and told us her whole story. It made us feel a lot of different things.

In the beginning, Rebecca got along great with her in-laws.

Rebecca, 34, told us her story and told us she was worried about her mother-in-law’s very rude behavior.

The woman said, “Hi!” as she opened her letter. My mother-in-law is driving me crazy, and no one will really listen to me except my husband, who is on his mother’s side. I need help right away. So, I really want to know what people who read my story on your pages think.

She wrote, “So, Rick and I have been married for over seven years now.” I have never said anything bad about our relationship; it has always been great. The same goes for my in-laws. They took me in like I was their own daughter. Rick’s dad was especially nice to me; he reminded me a lot of my own dad, who I lost to cancer 10 years ago.

“My MIL is 57 years old, and she’s always been nice to me,” the woman said. That is, until one day, Rick’s dad died suddenly of a heart attack. She has had a huge change in attitude since then. For the first two years of our marriage, I felt pretty welcome in the family. After that, bad things started happening one after the other.

Susan began to act in a very rude and inappropriate way.

After Rick’s dad died, Susan started tormenting me in every way possible, Rebecca says next in her story. She was acting in a way that showed she was fully focused on her belief that I “took her son from her.” She would say bad things about me that I hadn’t done.
She once said I stole some of her valuable things and even called the police on me. It turned out that the case was made up, and Susan had only hidden her jewelry in a box under a couch in her living room, saying she forgot to do it but didn’t say sorry.

According to the woman, “She would tell Rick that I’m cheating on him because I had male coworkers and friends with whom I sometimes went for coffee or to talk about work issues outside of work.” All of this was really silly. I tried to ignore most of what she did, but then she went too far.

Susan said she had the right to Rebecca’s unborn child.

Rebecca told everyone, “I’m six months pregnant now.” My pregnancy has been a long time coming. My husband and I had been trying for a baby for many years before I finally got pregnant. I need to take care of myself and only think about good things because my pregnancy is high-risk. She won’t let me do it, though.

“Recently, Susan came up to me and told me that my unborn child should call HER “mom” instead of me,” the woman said. Obviously, I was shocked. I even asked her to say it again because I thought I didn’t understand her right. Then she told me to teach my child to call her “mom.” In her mind, “I am more important to my son than you,” she said. “You can give him one thing I can’t:”

Susan also told Rebecca, “She insisted that she could have a baby too if she wanted to, and she made it clear that I’m not “special” for being pregnant.”

Rebecca was very angry, but that wasn’t all.

I told my husband about his mom’s strange claims, and he told me not to worry about it because “Mom wants the best for all of us, and if she wants our kid to call her “mom,” then the kid will call both you and her “mom.” “So, Rick didn’t see any problem at all, and he called it a “diplomacy,”” the woman said. What a bunch of crap!”

That wasn’t all, though. Soon after they talked, Susan went up to Rebecca again and told her she needed her to give her her baby. Sue told the woman, “I’m not ready to be a wife and mother. She also said that if I want to be with her son, I have to ‘pay her back.’” She thought for a bad reason that I had taken her son away and now I had to give her my own child and feel the pain she’s been in for so long.

“Of course, I asked Susan to leave right away after she started saying this nonsense again,” Rebecca wrote at the end of her letter. I’m now trying to stay as far away from her as possible. But my husband keeps telling me that I need to talk to his mom more and that I’m being rude to the woman who lost her husband and is now living alone.
But I think it’s just a small trick, and I’m really thinking about ending my relationship with Rick after I give birth. I don’t think we need to waste each other’s time anymore if he doesn’t stop protecting his mother and putting up with her mess.
