I Forced My Daughter to Leave on Christmas, Then the 2 AM Call Was Beyond Frightening

Subject: I Kicked My Daughter Out of Christmas After She Disrespected Her Stepsister

I’m a 38-year-old mom to Lily (12), and stepmom to Emily (14) and Mia (10). I remarried Jake (40) three years ago, and while I’ve tried to blend our families, Lily has always resented Jake and his daughters. Last week, things escalated when Emily, an aspiring artist, left a painting for her late mother’s parents on the dining table. Lily tore it up, and when I found Emily crying with the shredded pieces, I was furious. I told Lily she wouldn’t be spending Christmas with us. She screamed in anger, and later, during dinner, Lily insulted me, saying, “No wonder Dad left you, you’re a terrible mother.” Jake finally snapped, but Lily walked away.

At 2 AM, I received a call from a blocked number. It was the father of one of Lily’s friends.
