Rather than using his money to save my dying mother, my spouse would rather donate it.

At the moment, Fiona is going through a difficult time in her life. Her mother’s health is getting worse, and even though her husband has the money to help, he has chosen to give it to a good cause as a tribute to his late son. Fiona is very upset about this choice, and she has reached out to ask for help during this difficult time.

This is Fiona’s letter:

“My stepson, who was 16, died in a car accident. Because his son loved dogs, my husband gave his college fund to an animal rescue foundation.”

I told them that the money could really save my mom, who has a serious illness and needs expensive care. “Well, your parents should have thought about it,” he said with a shrug. If your family hasn’t saved money for emergencies, that’s not my fault.

He said, “This is my son’s money, and I will do something for his memory.”

I see things from my husband’s point of view, but I still don’t get why he would give this money to strangers when he knows it would help my dying mother a lot.

What must I do?

Best, Fiona”
