My spouse vanished, leaving me eight months pregnant with his child.

Being honest in a relationship is very important; keeping secrets can hurt you for a long time and often leads to a loss of trust that can’t be recovered. Still, empathy and clear communication can sometimes help people work things out, which can strengthen their relationship in the long run. Recently, a woman was shocked when her husband suddenly disappeared, and later she found out something scary about him. She wasn’t sure what to do next, so she wrote a touching letter online asking for help.

This is what she wrote in her letter:

“I (27F) got stuck at the airport last Friday night after a two-day work trip because my husband Dave (33M), who was supposed to pick me up, wasn’t there. I thought he had just fallen asleep and decided to take a taxi home since I couldn’t reach him. My husband wasn’t home when I got there. Some of his clothes were missing from the closet, but his car and everything else in the house were there.

It made me crazy, so I called him but got no answer. I called the police because I was worried, but they couldn’t do much because he hadn’t been gone for long and his clothes being missing made it look like he left on his own. Just so you know, I’m eight months pregnant right now. We also noticed that Dave had become more quiet and distant ever since we told him. But I never thought he would leave us; that wasn’t like him.

I’ve done everything I know how to do to get in touch with him but haven’t been able to. Then this morning, a call came in from a number outside of town. When I called back, there was a woman on the other end. She told him, “I’m calling you without telling Dave.” Don’t worry about your husband; I know where he is. I was relieved and confused, so I asked who she was. “It’s hard for me to say, but I’ll do this for the sake of your husband,” she said with a shaking voice. You must know this very important thing. After that, she told me a long-kept secret that Dave had kept from me. Claire, who used to date David, was on the other end of the phone.

They were seeing each other for four years before Dave and I met. It was while they were together that Claire got pregnant with his child. They had a healthy boy. They were going to get married the next year. But bad things happened when Claire was in a car accident and their nine-month-old son died. Dave had a hard time dealing with his grief and eventually broke up with Claire, believing she was to blame for the death of their son.

Now, Dave had gone to Claire to finalize things, especially since our new son is due next month. He had to spend one last moment with his dead son before moving on. Dave was at the cemetery where their baby was buried while we talked. For real, I’m shocked right now; I have no idea what to think about this. Why did he hide this? Also, why would he leave without telling me anything? I’m totally confused. Does he care about me or our new baby? I need advice right away on how to handle this situation when my husband comes back.

Sincerely,
Martha
