I’m Enraged Because My Son Chose To Support His Mother-in-Law Rather Than Me

Feeling cut off from her child can be very upsetting for a mother, especially if she needs to pay for something. At this point, Ruth is in a tough spot because her son has switched his financial help to his mother-in-law. She wants us to help her because she thinks she deserves her son’s support more.

This is Ruth’s letter:

“I lost my husband and am no longer fit to work.” For rent, my son gives me some money every month from his own money.

My daughter-in-law called me yesterday to say that he won’t be able to help anymore. When I asked her why, she told me, “My mom has been in bad shape lately, and we need that money to send her to a health spa and have her do some physiotherapy.” She also said, “I believe it’s time for my mom to gain from us too.” She needs the money more than you do right now. The money my husband makes is also my money, after all. When I heard those words, I was very angry.

My daughter-in-law stays at home and takes care of the kids. She has never worked and takes care of my grandchildren. I should get this money more than her own mother because it’s my son’s. I do not care if her mom needs to get in better shape and take better care of her health.

What must I do?

Sincerely,
Ruth”
