I Expect My In-Laws to Pay If They Want to Come for Lunch

House chores can get really tiring, especially when someone has to clean up alone after hosting a lot of people. Holly, is feeling frustrated because she’s overwhelmed with work after her in-laws visit on Sundays. Her husband isn’t supporting her either, so she asked us (the internet) for advice.

This is Holly’s letter:

“My husband’s family of 9 comes on Sundays for lunch because we’ve moved to a bigger house. After they leave, I’m left with a lot of cleaning to do, and they never offer to help.

I said, “Nothing is free in life, so from now on, they have to pay a fee if they want to come on Sundays.”

My husband declared, “I think you’re forgetting that it is my parents who helped us buy this house.” He added, “So, this is their place as much as it is ours, and we can’t expect them to pay in their house.”

When I told my MIL about my new plan, she replied, “You’re the one who’s in charge of keeping your house tidy; that is your duty. You can’t expect guests to contribute to that.”

I was blown away by the hypocrisy of my husband and his mom. Their answers only made me angrier and more frustrated, and I don’t know how to proceed from now on.

Yours,
Holly”
