My Best Friend of 20 Years Invited Me to Her Wedding, and It Was the Worst Day of My Life

While some friendships that appear to be strong can dissolve in an instant, others can endure for decades or even a lifetime. The 34-year-old woman who is today’s heroine was horrified by the behavior displayed on her special day by her best friend of more than 20 years. We sensed that the woman wanted to cry as she told us her story in the letter that she wrote.

Two women appeared to have a very strong friendship.

In a recent letter, Alyson, 34, shared with us the details of a heartbreaking incident involving her friendship with Miranda, 35, her best friend since childhood. “Last weekend, my childhood best friend got married,” she said as she started her story. Being present to assist her on her special day filled me with excitement and delight. Bad things started to happen in our relationship right away.

“Right after Miranda asked me to be her bridesmaid, she said that she would make me dress in a ‘girly’ way,” Alyson continues. She gave me a list of requirements that included growing my hair to at least bob length, wearing heels, and wearing a dress. In addition, I was meant to get a tan and color my hair. The worst thing that happened to me was that I had to use body makeup to cover up my tattoos.

From the outset, Alyson clarified why this was all problematic for her. “Since my teenage years, I have always been an absolute tomboy,” the writer wrote. I’ve never felt more uneasy wearing dresses, high heels, or makeup. But I offered to help with everything save growing my hair because it was my best friend’s special day. Alyson agreed when Miranda told her that she would still be invited to the wedding but would no longer be a bridesmaid, even though she was already feeling awful about the whole situation.

From then on, things could only get worse, and Alyson was growing irritated.

“I’m a chocolatier, so Miranda asked me if I could make the wedding favors and take full care of a dessert table,” Alyson continues her story. I was thrilled to assist her with everything, even though her demands regarding my appearance and the fact that she had rethought my invitation as a bridesmaid had pretty much destroyed our relationship. I went above and beyond to make the most incredible table, which was the big hit of the day.

However, Miranda’s attitude toward Alyson was not improving at all. The woman revealed, “She then informed me that Miranda wanted to keep costs down and the wedding was getting close to the point where it would go over budget.” According to her, my spouse was not invited. I was furious, but she was my closest friend and we had experienced a lot of life together. Since I assumed it was all a result of her pre-wedding anxiety, I was very understanding and even gave the couple a discount on the table I personally set up.

The best friend’s rude behavior continued after that pivotal moment.

“A month later, after looking over the guest list, Miranda informed me that although my husband could still attend, he would have to sit at the head table,” Alyson wrote. Alyson revealed that her husband was keen to expand his portfolio as a videographer and that he actually works as a wedding photographer. They were aware that Miranda lacked a videographer, as did her soon-to-be spouse.

Then, Alyson’s husband proposed that they have a professional wedding video made for them, and he would do it for free. According to the woman, “We could work with the other vendors if we moved to the vendor table, as Miranda was very happy about it.” It was decided that we would be seated with the vendors because we thought the idea was great.

After that, things became very unhealthy. “My husband and I arrived four hours early on the day of the wedding to help with the event,” Alyson wrote. I set up the dessert table, and he spent the time filming. Following the ceremony, the original room was transformed into the reception area, and guests were relocated to the party room. As I assisted with the room’s conversion, I was shocked to learn that my best friend had forgotten to put our names on the seating chart.

Alyson and her husband were not on the list, so they had to sit in a different room and it didn’t seem like there was a vendor table. The reception area was sealed off from that other room, so they were unable to see, hear, or even communicate with anyone.

Alyson is deeply hurt by the entire circumstance.

“After it was suggested that we sit in a separate room, I went to Miranda to explain the situation,” Alyson stated. It was a mix-up, she claimed. Although I get everything, Miranda did nothing to arrange for our transfer to the main room. The reception was abruptly cut off. I cried in the bathroom for most of the evening, missing the entire wedding. In order to create a lovely video for them, my spouse kept filming everything.

“After the whole situation, I texted Miranda and told her about my feelings,” Alyson wrote as she ended her letter. She began to apologize, saying that day she had been a bit of a scatterbrain. She expressed her deep regret and desire to stay friends. And right now, all I want is to never, ever see her again.
