A 37-year-old woman penned a letter sharing her moving tale, which left us speechless. The bride-to-be berated her partner for withholding a very unpleasant secret from her, which she finally disclosed just before their wedding. Her experience demonstrates that sometimes it is important to learn about our significant others’ pasts, particularly when we learn that there was information that they purposefully withheld from us but that we should have known.

The woman and her fiancé were content with their relationship.

In a letter to us, a 37-year-old woman named Laura shared her personal story, which may be relatable to many individuals in relationships. Laura stated as she opened her letter that she and her fiancé Mike had already been dating for a considerable amount of time. When Mike recently asked Laura to marry him, she was ecstatic.

“I have been dating Mike, a divorced man with two kids, for five years,” Laura disclosed. Our relationship has always been described as “mature,” free of needless drama and an excess of feelings. We are both very clear about what we want out of life and from each other, and we are both putting a lot of effort into keeping our relationship strong and harmonious.
Mike got me excited when he asked me to marry him. I’ve never been married and I’ve never set out to get married in a particular way, but Mike was the perfect partner for me, and I knew I would feel safe and at ease in his company.

“I have never been in love with Mike,” Laura continued. Although I didn’t love him in the typical sense, I did have a great deal of respect for him. Nevertheless, our relationship wasn’t based on romance; rather, it was built on mutual trust and a sense of a secure future for both of us. For the two of us, this has always been sufficient.

Until that day, Mike had never betrayed Laura’s trust.

Laura continues her account by asserting that Mike has never misled her. For Laura, his relationship with his ex-wife has always been transparent. She was aware that they occasionally got together to talk about their parenting problems. In regards to Mike’s previous relationship, there was no cause for concern. However, Laura’s world abruptly changed one day.

“Mike started to come home very late,” the woman wrote. It was more than 2.5 months long. He would always justify it by saying that he was working on a new project that required more time and effort than normal due to his heavy workload. I used to believe him, but then I went to a grocery store and ran into one of his coworkers. I recognized this coworker in the store and even stopped for a brief but courteous conversation. He used to visit our place once or twice.
We had a casual conversation in which I mentioned how difficult their new project must have been for both Mike and him. Then, I received an unexpected response informing me that this project had been closed a month prior, and they had even celebrated with a lovely party. Since then, Mike and his colleague have been operating in their typical manner, and nothing else has caused Mike to remain late at work. He had been lying to me the entire time.

Laura tried to talk to Mike, but it didn’t work.

Following their conversation with Mike’s colleague, Laura made the decision to confront Mike head-on without holding back. The woman stated, “I told him that I knew he was coming late, but it wasn’t because of that project. I just asked him to sit and talk to me.” Mike told me out loud that, yes, he had been lying to me the entire time. However, he was acting in our relationship’s best interests.
He claimed to have set up some additional work for himself and that his only goal was to make some extra cash so that he could buy me a unique wedding present. In other words, he was essentially preparing a surprise for me and attempting to get additional money to make it happen.

Laura disclosed that she had a hunch that Mike was lying once more. However, she feigned to believe him. “I felt that he was lying, but I couldn’t prove it. I just felt that all these excuses about the wedding present and the extra work were ridiculous,” she stated. “I didn’t have any evidence that he might have been cheating, or something of that kind.”

It was an unexpected and unintentional revelation of the truth.

Laura continues her tale by stating, “This year, we went to his mom’s house to drop off his daughter on her birthday.” Since Mike’s mother is not a particularly hospitable person, I had never been there before. To my surprise, though, things were different this time. I received an invitation to view the gifts that Mike’s daughter received from her mother and grandmother. My heart fell when I saw that there were photos of Mike and his ex-wife taken on their wedding day, along with other family and infant photos, hanging on every wall in the home.

Laura was taken aback by Mike’s apparent lack of interest in revisiting his past marriage. However, she soon noticed another picture that completely shocked, disappointed, and demoralized her. In his mother’s hallway, Laura noted, “There was one very recent photo on the wall.” There was a date on it, and that was the day Mike began his work-related “project.” He was seen kissing his ex-wife in the picture. It turns out that they were in a romantic relationship and that he had been seeing her behind his back the entire time. His mother took the initiative to print this picture and hang it on the wall after learning about it.

“You can ask me why Mike proposed to me if he had such deep feelings for his ex-wife,” Laura said in closing. The fact is that although Mike and his ex-wife did have feelings for one another, they simply didn’t want to get married again. It was therefore intended that I serve as Mike’s convenient “wife on the paper.” And his real feelings and attitude would be exploited by his ex. Mike told me everything after I caused a major commotion over these pictures and everything.

Laura wrote that Mike was baffled as to why she had called off her wedding. He believed that their relationship was perfect and that his extramarital affair had no bearing on it. However, Laura acknowledged, “I realized all of a sudden that I fell in love with Mike.” Sincerely and truly. His lies and his affair caused a great deal of hurt. So, even though I had to break up with Mike, it was a painful decision that I would rather regret for a while than live a lifetime with a liar and cheater.
