Why I Refused to Choose Between Love and My Home

Summary: My in-laws let us live in their second home when we got married. But then, my husband passed away. 4 years later, I’m pregnant and in love again.

My boyfriend will be moving in, but my mother-in-law is furious. “You’re replacing him too soon, she declared. Days later, I was stunned to find the locks had been changed and all of my belongings were piled up on the lawn.

Details: My late husband’s parents gave us a place to live when we got married. Now, four years after his death, I’m pregnant and in love. My in-laws let us live in their second house, but after my husband died, they’ve turned on me. I found love again and I’m pregnant with my new partner’s child. He will be moving in, but my
mother-in-law is furious. My mother-in-law is demanding we move out ‘His ghost will haunt you. You’re replacing him too soon.

I refused. But then, they took matters into their own hands. I understand that they’re grieving, but it’s been four years. I have a right to move on with my life. I’m not trying to replace my husband, but I deserve to be happy. I should add that my in-laws have never been particularly kind to me. They always treated me like an outsider, and they’ve made it clear that they don’t think I’m good enough for their son. I’m not sure why they let us live in their second home in the first place, but suspect it was just a way to keep an eve on me. NISE, would I be in the wrong for refusing to leave? What are my options here?
