A video message on my phone. It was from my son. He was sitting up in a hospital bed, smiling and looking perfectly fine, with no sign of injury. “Grandpa, don’t worry! I’m fine. The army told you I was injured, but that’s not true. It was a mix-up. I’m safe, and I’ll be home soon.”
The relief flooded over me, and I felt a bit foolish for letting the fear take over. But as I watched his face, I couldn’t help but smile. I was glad he was coming home. And it turns out, that mix-up wasn’t the first one they had made.
