My Ex-Husband Wants Me to Take Back My Maiden Name Because His Fiancée Is Uncomfortable

When we think we’re over our ex-partners, sometimes they come back with strange demands. Our reader experienced this; her ex-husband abruptly wanted her to stop using her married name because it made him uncomfortable with his new partner.

We received a message from one of our readers.

“We got divorced a year ago, and several months later, my ex-husband found a girlfriend. We had a messy breakup and completely cut off contact with each other.

Recently, he reached out to me out of the blue, saying, ‘I’m getting married soon, and I want you to take back your maiden name because my fiancée is uncomfortable.’

I asked him why it was a problem, and he said she didn’t want me to have the same last name. She knows I was his ex-wife, and she thinks I still ‘belong’ to him.

It’s too much paperwork, and I don’t have the time for that. I refused and blocked him. What I didn’t expect was to see his fiancée in front of my house. She looked at me with disgust and said I was still in love with him otherwise, I would have changed my last name already.”
